ok so this month i kind of went on a reality show rampage… it all started with watching the new challenge: battle of the exes, then wanting to know about the newer people that i’d never seen before since i hadn’t watched that shit in ages (not since the whole ct/diem love story stuff anyway), so i wanted to know more about cara maria cus i thought she was cool, so i watched cutthroat, then i watched rivals because cutthroat was so fun to watch, and then i wanted to learn more about other new people like mike and leroy and heather and dustin so i watched the real world: las vegas, which then led me to start real world: d.c. d.c is definitely not as interesting as las vegas right now
other things that happened this month: i finished veronica mars which was depressing as fuq.
hopefully i stop watching reality tv and get back to normal stuff… i should watch parks and rec, finish arrested development… idk i’m distraught after finishing veronica mars so i’m just all over the place with my tv watching ;_;

i can now say that i watched 914 episodes of tv in 2011. that’s a lot. but somehow, i kept my grades up, still hung out with my family and friends and i did things with my life. how? idek honestly…
this post will basically describe my favorite things tv-wise this last year in a countdown… word of caution: not all of this was released in 2011 or had new seasons in 2011, it’s mostly things i discovered in 2011. let’s get started:
15. THE TUDORS
i finished this in the beginning of the year, but i still am reminded of the beautiful series finale the show was given, and jonathan rhys meyers’s acting. i loved mary most of all, and wished they would show the rest of the tudor family after henry’s death. my only complaint was the historical inaccuracy, but regardless, beautifully shot, costumed, etc.
please watch this video. it’s jane/henry, which were my favorite. (and yes, i did like anne, but i like jane for henry best)
14. MIRANDA
i found this show right at the end of 2011, and it was truly a wonderful find. the comedy is exactly what i like, the characters are quirky and funny and sweet, and everything on the show is light. it makes me happy to watch… it makes me forget my problems and just laugh for 30 minutes. i love miranda/gary and miranda in general by herself.

13. LUTHER
morally gray characters galore! i love john so much, he’s the greatest ever, and i am totally infatuated with idris elba. news of a third series has made me sane, cus i need more of these characters so bad, esp now that we have met jenny, and have become incredibly attached to alice and justin and luther and everyone. this show’s villains are incredibly fucked up and the crime scene that’s still ingrained in my head is the one with the blood used to write stuff on the wall omg. but yes. alice/john and alice/john/jenny.

12. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
this show has quickly become one of my favorites. i looove where the new season has been going, and cannot wait for delena. every single episode of s3 that’s ended with delena saying meaningful things w/ soft background music has made me cry. my love for ripper!stefan and stefan in general/bonnie/jeremy/matt/caroline/klaus have no bounds. i really do believe that this show deserves more credit than it gets, just because it involves vampires and is aimed at teenagers doesn’t mean it’s not touching or emotional. i’m so excited for the rest of the season.

11. HOMELAND
i was very, very excited for this show after having finished up my so-called life. learning that the talented claires danes would be the main character i was beyond ecstatic. the show obv did not disappoint, and up until the moment it was revealed whether brody was or wasn’t a terrorist, i didn’t have a clue. the acting is probably my favorite thing about this show (claire danes, damian lewis, even the girl who plays dana!). another thing i really liked about this show is how it doesn’t shy away from making the u.s ~look bad. the u.s military has done some unthinkable things to the people in the middle east, and this show uses that as a main plot instead of making the u.s always look like the ‘good guys’. claire danes for all the awards with her performance in the last two episodes, yall.

10. BOARDWALK EMPIRE
boardwalk is a show that i am fond of primarily because of its use of history (though it is bended), costumes, music, good looking people smoking, and most importantly, morally gray characters. i watched s1 in the summer and became obsessed soon after. i was annoyed and angry of jimmy for a large part of season 2, but the season finale made me bawl—“i died in the trench” and the angela/jimmy story from their college days makes me feel too many feels. i am rooting primarily for margaret, and have become really attached to lucy this past season, as well as nelson becoming a badass and taking care of his bb.

9. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (AND TEARS)
i caught up with all 7 seasons of this show starting in the end of january. it has taken me where no sitcom has ever taken anyone… honestly. i’m so captivated by these characters because they’re so great and funny and lovable and good friends to each other. through everything that i’ve been put thanks to robin/barney, and ted being the best ever ever ever (i will be ted’s wife, look out for me on your screens), and being so beyond happy for marshall/lily/future bb. one of the most beautiful and genuine shows i watch.

8. BREAKING BAD
i’m still not done catching up with breaking bad, but i watched all of seasons 1, 2, and 3, and i’m halfway done with s4. although i haven’t fully caught up, i have to mention this show because it’s one of the greatest things i’ve watched this year and ever. at first i really liked walt, but that’s deteriorated. i love jesse more than anyone can imagine (jfc aaron paul’s acting), and i think skyler’s been super awesome these past 2 seasons “i have to protect this family from the man that protects this family”. the show is great because of how intense it is and how somehow in every single episode something crazy occurs. must finish up soon.

7. THE PACIFIC (AND MANPAIN AND EUGENE AND SNAFU AND MY CREYS)
beautifully done show about one of the most looked over parts of ww2. the pacific made me cry and incredible amount of times, and esp looking at all the characters’s “real life inspirations”/the real eugenes and leckies, etc. and i just wanna cry thinking about this masterpiece. “everybody’s heard of guadalcanal and the first marine division, you guys are on the front page of every newspaper in america, you’re heroes back home”. i wouldn’t mind watching this over, whatsoever. which also reminds me that i have to watch band of brothers and generation kill.

6. BONES
i had started bones before, but i caught up with it from seasons 2-6 in a very short span of time. i became obsessed with it and haven’t stopped since. the begining of s7 is all that i could’ve ever hoped for booth/bones, the show is just devastatingly beautiful in the way it shows human emotion. don’t let anybody fool you when they say, “procedurals suck cus it’s the same thing over and over”. bones is a procedural in that it has a different case each episode yes, but it’s not the same thing over and over at all, because the character growth that every single character on this show has gone through is incredible. bones is probably the biggest change, but angela/hodgins with their baby, and even the assistants have grown. i love sweets and i always miss zack (and dislike how s3 played out but whateva). also, emily deschanel in the doctor in the photo (“i made a mistake”—“i’m with someone”—tears) and david boreanaz in the daredevil in the mold (“what is it about women that just don’t want what i’m offering here?”). i’m so glad for this series, it’s one of the most beautiful and dear-to-my-heart shows.

5. GILMORE GIRLS
this show has been on my queue because two of my closest friends really love it (and also because of tumblr really), but i finally watched all of it this year. my summer mostly consisted of 5+ eps of gg a day, and nonstop reblogging of scenes i fell in love with (rory/lorelai funny scenes aka every scene and rory/her bfs) and rage over scenes i despised (most of the season where rory/lorelai don’t speak to each other, rory staying with logan when he cheated, lorelai/chris and the marriage fiasco). the dialogue is my favorite thing about this show, followed by how easy it is to identify with both rory and lorelai. i do honestly think this show shines with empowered women, and that also made me love it. i spent the series finale in bed, sobbing into my pillow, with snot falling out of my nose, my eyes puffy and red, and i am not ashamed. if i could, i’d go through all that pain again, if only to see my beautiful characters for the first time once more.

4. SHAMELESS
you guys, i watched shameless in one sitting. that day i went to sleep at like 9am watching it and i don’t regret one second of it. shameless comes #1 on this list as shows that truly make me smile and happy. i love the relationships in that show more than anything, but the humor is so phenomenal as well. i love emmy rossum’s acting so much, and have become incredibly attached to the other siblings, esp lip. i definitely thought there were some odd things on the show (i still can’t get over how stupid/weird/idk the whole gallagher mom/shrek woman/liam storyline went), but other than that everything was perfect. no but really, this show knows exactly what to do to make me smile. it’s one of the only shows on this list that i wouldn’t mind watching over and over. i saw the leaked s2 premiere and it was the most beautiful thing i’ve ever seen. i’m so excited to have this show back. gallaghers pay their debts!

3. GAME OF THRONES
i had this as number 1 and then number 2 on this list for a little bit. BECAUSE IT’S SO GOOD. but alas, game of thrones ended up here. i was swept up with this show because of tumblr and quickly got addicted. it’s just so heart-wrenching and the costumes make me wanna cry. the cinematography is one of my favorite things, along with the characters and their gray morality. although i think i do love the starks the best (because of the children—ugh sansa is my queen… and arya, and that sad snow bastard, etc), i can’t describe my love for the lannisters and cersei esp. this is one of the things i’m most looking forward to in 2012, i’m incredibly excited for the new characters. one thing i must do: read the books.

2. SKINS
MY BEAUTIFUL SHOW :’))). the beginning of 2011 was filled with way too much fangirling thanks to the third gen. i have a deep love for rich and nick and alo and liv. they are my faves. i also really loved mini’s arc. this is the show where i go crazy with ships tbh. friendship wise i looove rich/alo and nick/alo, i love liv/mini/grace/franky, nick/franky. romantically, i ship rich/grace, i shipped nick/liv so bad, i want mini/alo to happen in s6—“you’re alright” “you adapt” (and idk dude i thought my dreams were never even a possibility because of franky/mini’s relationship towards the end of s5 but the new promo pics/vids show lack of franky/mini and a little mini/alo so idk duuuude! it’s possible!). i also just want liv to be happy, because i don’t get why parts of the fandom hate her, i think she’s awesome. i just love everything about this gen and how light s5 was even with some drama put in. “CUS I DONT COMPROMISE EVER. I’M METUHL!” “i want to just be” “sometimes i do things and i know i shouldn’t but i do them anyway, fuck why do i do them?” “we can make our life a story” “when did it all get so fucking hard?”. overall great storylines in s5, hopefully they don’t crumble and fall to pieces s4-style.

1. FRINGE
fringe deserved my #1 spot for a couple of reasons. mostly, it’s because i caught up with seasons 2 and half of 3 before i started watching live. i remember the last ep i watched before i watched live was marionette, and we all know how gripping and sad that episode is… my poor bb olivia, heartbroken forever. i was watching this when my mom was visiting me, and i remember showing her a fanvid i watched and LITERALLY CRIED TO… and obv i’m a masochist because i watched it like 5 times in a row. this is one of the greatest of all the scenes on fringe imo… please watch the video. having polivia unfold in front of me was beautiful, and the current season is fantastic in every way (although i do miss the normal!verse). i don’t know what i’ll do if/when this show gets cancelled, because i can’t bear to not have the best characters, writing, mythology, plot, etc. on my tv screen. this is the most beautiful show i’ve watched since LOST. please, if you want to be taken on a journey through every emotion, give this one a try because it’s one of the best out right now. it deserves a bigger audience.
